Kronike iz Vrlike

Hi, let me introduce myself and my family.
I'm Božena, my husband is Bernard (Bere) and we have 1,5 year old Paola (she calls herself Pava). My mother-in-law, Milka, lives downstairs. She's retired and helps us with Paola. We live in a small village in Dalmatian hinterland, Vinalić, 70 km from Split.
In early 2020., just before COVID pandemic, I came to live here from the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. Born and raised in Zagreb, but with roots from Vinalić and nearby village, Kijevo, I've decided to leave city life and move here. Sick and tired of traffic jams, always rushing, office jobs and too many people around me, I figured living in a village with about one hundred inhabitants will be a nice change.
Not knowing how to light a fire, chop wood and not having many skills to survive here like planting a garden or raising animals, I had to gradually adapt to life in rural area (e.g. my first garden in 2020 famously failed :D).
But after a while I found a trusted confidant – Bere, now my husband. First, he was my Cicerone, as Italians say – a guide to show me what this place has to offer, because I was the new tourist office director in Vrlika. (Btw, I finished law school, but that's another story.)
Then, he offered to chop fire wood for me and from then on he's doing it for our family :)

Motivation
My life completely changed in the last six years and I know many people who daydream about doing the same – leave city life and trade it for this tranquillity.
With Bere I begun foraging for asparogus, medicine herbs and mushrooms; occasionally hiking; planting a garden, choping wood, raising chickens, ducks and geese; helping with bees and kayak tours, even ran for mayor of Vrlika (haven't made it, but it was a valuable experience about people's mentality here).
If you would like to know how is it to live a simple life without filters, come and see it from the first hand!
